How did we start?

In 2001 Team 812, The Midnight Mechanics, established itself as the very first FRC team in San Diego. With support from the University of California, San Diego, The Preuss Foundation and the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Team 812 began its first year of competition.

who are we now?

Sixteen years later, The Midnight Mechanics are going strong, with a focused emphasis on changing the discourse of STEAM, education, and adversity in underserved communities. Their mission, developed through FIRST, is to help everyone recognize that they have the potential to pursue STEAM and the capability to initiate change from within. Working by the philosophy of "students teaching students," our work revolves around establishing a legacy of success.

Our School

The Preuss School UCSD is a Title I public charter located on the campus of UC San Diego. This 6th -12th grade school serves a low-income, historically underrespresented student population, all of whom which will be the first in their families to go to college. The Preuss School UCSD creates an atmosphere of intellectual risk taking and is a great supporter of The Midnight Mechanics.
